Less and less to see Egan Bernal competing again. The Colombian continues to recover from the injury resulting from his fall in San Juan and is seen to be very active on social networks, sharing his training and rehabilitation.
Bernal works on his health to hang a number in the short term, but overall, he knows that there is much more to verify than whether the knee is healthy. “I feel strong and motivated for a key season in which I will really understand how my body will react. It won’t be decisive, but it will be an indication of whether I can win again or not. Thinking about it, it would be normal for me not to win in 2023, but that is my ambition, ”he explained.
“There is a desire to return to the level I had, if it were not so I would have retired,” he told Tuttobiciweb. “Every day I wake up with the ambition to be the best, to train and make sacrifices,” continued the South American, who still has no date to return to the peloton.
Finally, he was philosophical about his future and the achievements that he already treasures or could add in the future. “After I won the Tour, people started saying that I would win seven, and then the same thing was said about Pogacar and Vingegaard.”
For now, Bernal left very good feelings in San Juan. Obviously, this event is not a real parameter for July, but it is worth considering the situation the rider was in a little over a year ago.
