Berlin – The SPD and the Greens are in a bind. In their programs for the federal election, the two parties announced that they wanted to limit the rise in rents more strongly. The SPD agreed that in tense residential areas it would “introduce a temporary rent moratorium, which means that rents can only be increased for a certain period within the framework of the inflation rate”. And the Greens promised: “Regular rent increases should be limited to 2.5 percent per year within the rent index”. At the same time, both parties wanted to “sharpen” the rental price brake (Greens) or “close the loopholes” (SPD).
