Chennai: Rain with thunder and lightning may occur in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal today, the Chennai Meteorological Department said.

Light to moderate rain with thundershowers may occur over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal today due to the low circulation over the Bay of Bengal over South Andhra – North Tamil Nadu coastal areas.
Light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning will occur at many places in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal tomorrow.
In Chennai, the sky will be cloudy for 48 hours. A few parts of the city may witness moderate rain with thunder and lightning.
In the last 24 hours, maximum rainfall of 12 cm has been received in Sivagangai district, Tirupur. Pudukottai Thirumayam and Sivagangai Tirupathur areas received 11 cm of rain each.
On the 18th and 19th, cyclonic winds of 40 to 50 kmph are likely to occur in the Gulf of Mannar and adjoining Kumari Sea, South Tamil Nadu coastal areas, Sri Lankan coastal areas and adjoining South West Bay of Bengal.
During these days, fishermen should not go to those areas.
