Give a “historical dimension”. The president of the Representative Council of Jewish Institutions of France (Crif), Yonathan Arfi, calls on Emmanuel Macron to participate in the march against anti-Semitism organized in Paris on Sunday November 12. “It would be good for Emmanuel Macron to be there, it would give a historic dimension to the event,” he said this Thursday morning on LCI. For the moment, the Élysée has not communicated on the presence or not of the head of state.

“We need this march because the Jews in France need to hear the cry of the heart, the solidarity, the spirit of fraternity of the French towards them in the face of anti-Semitism,” insists Yonathan Arfi.

Initiated by the President of the National Assembly Yaël Braun-Pivet and the President of the Senate Gérard Larcher, this “great civic march” will leave from the Place des Invalides (7th arrondissement) on Sunday at 3 p.m. to say “yes to the Republic and no to the anti-Semitism. » Jean-Luc Mélenchon’s refusal to participate, reluctance to march alongside the RN… the political class already appears divided.

The president of the CRIF also does not want the RN party to demonstrate on Sunday, referring to “a party founded by former collaborators”. “Yes, there is a problem with their presence on Sunday. It must not be that tomorrow, because they participated in this march, that they will have earned a certificate of respectability,” he judges.

“More firmness” judicial

Yonathan Arfi calls for more “firmness” while anti-Semitic acts have increased since the start of the war between Israel and Hamas on October 7. “The Republic is not ruthless enough when we are faced with a phenomenon that is overflowing,” regrets the president of Crif who calls for “justice that speaks louder”.

“We come to attack Jews in France because we think we are taking part in the conflict between Israel and Hamas, by identifying with the Palestinian cause. It must be denounced. The fuel of anti-Semitism today is hatred of Israel. »

In France, 857 anti-Semitic acts have been recorded on November 5 since the start of the war, “as many in three weeks” as in “the entire past year”. Paris police chief Laurent Nuñez, for his part, reported on Sunday 257 anti-Semitic acts over the past month in the Paris metropolitan area.
