They were difficult weeks for Groupama FDJ since the Giro d’Italia ended and Thibaut Pinot asked to be taken to the Tour. From that moment on, the staff had to rebuild the plans they had months ago and which included Arnaud Démare and his assistants in the lineup.

With the sprinter out (annoying and with a future in another team), Pinot was incorporated into the block for the Grande Boucle. “I’m obviously very happy, especially to be able to do one last Tour de France,” he told L’Equipe. “It would have been very frustrating not to be able to go with the legs that the Giro d’Italia gave me,” added the climber.

“We have a team lined up to do a great Tour. For me, a good Tour would be to be able to express what I have in my legs and there are no reasons for that not to happen ”, he completed. It is clear that, for marketing reasons, Pinot had to be part of the game. And in terms of sport, his Giro confirms that he still has good cycling in his legs, but it is also a reality that David Gaudu will be the leader and the cornerstone of the project in the coming years.

Tibo he will have to work for his partner and, eventually, he will receive the green light on some mountain day to go on the run.
