The late actor Lee Ji-han, who appeared on Mnet’s ‘Produce 101 Season 2’, received an honorary diploma from Dongguk University.
Lee Ji-han’s mother recently posted on her Instagram account a photo of Dongguk University’s honorary diploma along with the message, “Ji-han had his honorary graduation ceremony on the 22nd.” She continued, “I went to the graduation ceremony and came back with terrible body aches, so I’m only now coming to my senses and reminiscing about that day.”
The mother said, “We didn’t want to take Jihan’s memorial photo to the graduation ceremony because we didn’t want to acknowledge our son’s death,” and added, “But I was so sad that there might be people at school who don’t even know who Jihan is, so we wrapped Jihan’s memorial photo in a silk cloth and took it with us.”
He continued, “The three of us shed tears from the moment we entered (the auditorium). We didn’t hear any voices congratulating Ji-han on his graduation.” He continued, “Our family didn’t prepare a bouquet of flowers. We were so sad that Ji-han wasn’t with us to receive it. We even thought, ‘Why did we go to receive the honorary diploma in vain?’ There’s no Ji-han to receive the diploma, so why is a piece of paper so important?”
He said, “Life is so vain, everything is meaningless, and it feels like my chest is on fire, and it’s hard to breathe.” He continued, “With these frustrating thoughts like, ‘What’s the point of a diploma without a main character? ’, it felt like our family was living with a big hole in our hearts.”
Finally, the mother said, “Since October 29th, our family’s life without Ji-han has become like people walking around with their feet in the air instead of on the ground, feeling no meaning in anything.” She also conveyed her feelings, saying, “Ji-han placed the honorary diploma that he couldn’t even touch in front of Ji-han’s memorial photo, and his mom, dad, and older sister cried and muttered, ‘Congratulations on your honorary graduation, Ji-han.’ We are looking at you, Ji-han. We love you and miss you so, so, so much.” She was moved to tears.
Lee Ji-han tragically passed away at the young age of 24 in a stampede disaster that occurred in Itaewon, Seoul on October 29, 2022.
At the time, the agency said, “Lee Ji-han was a warm and affectionate friend to everyone,” and “The image of Lee Ji-han, who always smiled brightly and greeted people cheerfully, is vivid in our memories, and it’s hard to believe that we won’t be able to see him anymore.” They continued, “Please send Lee Ji-han, who left us too soon, off with a warm farewell.”
Lee Ji-han, born in 1998, became known through his appearance on ‘Produce 101 Season 2’ in 2017. He was a student at Dongguk University’s Department of Theater and Film, and appeared in web dramas such as ‘Today is Another Nam Hyun-han Day’ and worked as an actor. He passed away while filming the MBC drama ‘The Season of Kokdu’.
