The Italian portal “oasport” and the French portal “RMC sport” have given their guesses as to how many and where each country will win Olympic medals.
The portals of both countries predicted 4 medals each for the Lithuanians, but the Italian experts were a bit more generous.
The Italians promise us 3 gold and 1 silver medal.
According to “oasport”, Mykolas Alekna (discus throw), Dominika Banevič – Bgirl Nicka (break) and Donata Karalienė with Dovile Rimkutas (rowing) will win gold, while Rūta Meilutyte (100 m breaststroke) will win silver.
According to this scenario, the Lithuanian team would take 29th place.
Meanwhile, “RMC sport” predicts 2 gold and 2 bronze medals for Lithuanians.
French experts believe that Dominika Banevič – Bgirl Nicka and R. Meilutytė will win the gold medals. Meanwhile, M. Alekna and the duo of D. Karalienė and D. Rimkutė would receive bronze medals.
If such forecasts prove true, Lithuania would take 44th place in the final ranking.
Both the Italians and the French predict first place for the US team, second for the Chinese, and third for the French team.
In the last Olympic Games, Lithuania won only one silver medal. Then pentathlete Laura Asadauskaitei managed to do it.
Until now, the best Lithuanian performances were at the 2000 Sydney and 2012 London Olympic Games. Lithuanians collected 2 gold and 3 bronze medals both times and took 33rd place.
