The Italian company Ansaldo Energia is promoting Azerbaijan within the framework of the energy transition and notes progress in the implementation of the corresponding energy project in Mingachevir, Day.Az reported on Wednesday, citing a statement by the head of Ansaldo Energia Fabrizio Fabbri following a visit to Azerbaijan.

“I visited Azerbaijan. Together with Italian Ambassador Claudio Taffuri and Azerenerji President Baba Rzayev, we visited the combined cycle power plant in Mingachevir, as Ansaldo Energia is installing two gas turbines there. Our commitment to this project is consistent with Azerbaijan’s goal of achieving the energy transition,” – Fabbri noted on his social media account.

He also believes that the company’s participation in the project in Azerbaijan will strengthen Italian-Azerbaijani relations in the area of exchange of technological knowledge and experience.

Let us recall that in February 2023, the foundation of a new power plant with a capacity of 1,280 megawatts was laid in Migachevir (on the territory of the Azerbaijan Thermal Power Plant – the largest in the South Caucasus).

Last year, Azerenerji OJSC signed contracts with Ansaldo Energia for the construction, delivery and installation of gas turbines and generators produced by this Italian company at a new station in Mingachevir.

Earlier, Azerenergy noted that as a result of connecting the new power plant with a capacity of 1,280 megawatts and the existing seventh and eighth blocks of the Azerbaijan TPP, the total capacity of the power facility in Mingachevir will be 1,880 megawatts.

The contract with Ansaldo Energia will increase the efficiency of the heating plant from 18 to 56 percent.

The gas used in the gas turbines of the new 1,280-megawatt power plant will, through recycling, turn water into steam and make it possible to obtain energy without using additional gas in the steam turbines of the 7th and 8th blocks of the Azerbaijan TPP.

As a result of the connection, 800 million cubic meters of gas per year will be saved.
