The popular British cartoon series Peppa Pig came to the Italian election campaign after the far-right Brothers of Italy (FdI), favorites of the September 25 electionsasked public television not to broadcast an episode in which a character with two mothers appears.
The FdI leader and favorite to be the country’s next minister, Giorgia Meloni, spoke out against the episode, referring to the fact that it was a topic that should be dealt with in the family and that it was a bit early for the age of the children who watch Peppa Pigwhich are around three years old. For his part, the head of culture at Fdl, Federico Mollicone, asked Rai not to broadcast the episode, arguing that they could not accept gender indoctrination.
On the other side, the reactions of the center-left were immediate and had a sarcastic tone. “But then we have to censor Peppa Pig and spread the video of the woman raped in Piacenza without limits?”the leader of the PD, Enrico Letta, asked for his part, referring to a recording of a woman being sexually assaulted that Meloni published on her social networks a few weeks ago.
