Jacopo Venzo, a 17-year-old Italian cyclist, died following a fall during the 1st stage of the Junioren Rundfahrt in Austria, the European Cycling Union (UEC) announced on Saturday. “There are no words to describe this tragedy,” the UEC said on its Twitter account.
The Italian fell on Friday during the first stage between Haid and Marchtrenk, in the descent of Mistelbacher Berg. The Campana Imballaggi Geo & Tex Trentino runner succumbed to his serious injuries overnight, according to the Austrian press agency (APA).

Bringing together more than 140 runners, the event reserved for juniors which was to end on Sunday has been canceled. This death comes five weeks after that, among professionals, of the Swiss Gino Mäder.
Member of the Bahrain-Victorious team, the latter died on June 16 at the age of 26, following a fall in a descent during the 5th stage of the Tour de Suisse.
