Italian MP welcomes Morocco’s progress in various areas

Rome – Italian MP Maria Belinghieri on Thursday welcomed the progress made by Morocco in various areas, calling for the strengthening of Moroccan-Italian cooperation “which brings important opportunities for the Mediterranean”.

“Morocco has invested heavily in the development of renewable energy, infrastructure and training, while launching important constitutional reforms that have allowed it to take decisive steps in respecting human rights and improving the quality of life of citizens,” said the Italian MP in a statement published on the Democratic Party’s website, a few days after a working visit to Morocco by the parliamentary intergroup supporting the autonomy plan for the Moroccan Sahara.

Noting that the Kingdom “actively cooperates with the Council of Europe for the strengthening of democracy in all its forms”, the Italian parliamentarian stressed that “Morocco also constitutes a global model in terms of tolerance and coexistence thanks to the wisdom of HM King Mohammed VI, Commander of the Faithful”.

A parliamentary intergroup in support of the autonomy plan for the Moroccan Sahara was created on 31 May 2022, at the initiative of several deputies and senators belonging to different Italian political groups, including Ms Belinghieri.

The parliamentary intergroup includes, from the Chamber of Deputies, Messrs. Marco Di Maio and Alessandro Alfonso Pagano in addition to Ms. Stefania Ascari, and from the Senate, Ms. Urania Giulia Rosina Papatheu and Mr. Francesco Mollame.
