TRENTO. In honor of Paola Egonu and against racism: this is the new work by street artist Laika that appeared on the night of August 12, in front of the Coni headquarters in Viale Tiziano 70, in Rome, and it’s called “Italianity”.

The poster depicts Paola Egonu, a volleyball player for the Italian national team with which she won the Olympic gold yesterday, squashing a ball with the writing: “Stop racism, hatred, xenophobia, ignorance.”

“This victory is a slap in the face to everyone the so-called patriots who do not accept a multi-ethnic Italy, made up of second generationswho does not want the ius soli. A ball in the face to those who speak of Italianness referring to physical features“, declared the artist, lashing out against the repeated statements of the Northern League MEP Roberto Vannacci.

“In our country there is no longer room for xenophobia, racism, hatred and intolerance. Racism is a social plague that must be defeated. Doing it also through sport is very important. I believe in a future of inclusiveness, acceptance and respect for human rights. Being represented by athletes like Paola Egonu, Myriam Sylla, Ekaterina Antropova It’s an honor. Seeing them with the most precious medal of the Olympic Games around their necks, while they sing the Italian anthem with emotion is an immense joy. I dedicate this poster to all the Italians not recognized as such by our State”, concluded Laika.
