Italians want sustainable technology for everyone. A study by Samsung and PoliMi says so

Time.news – Italians recognize a central role of new technologies, considered necessary tools to face the challenges of our times and guarantee a better future. They feel it necessary that technology companies focus on sustainability, followed by training and access to technology for innovation within everyone’s reach.

In particular, 62% of Italians think that digital technology can contribute to reducing the environmental impact, 49% believe it engine of social progress and 47% an instrument for reducing inequalities and promoting a more inclusive and equitable society.

These are some of the trends that emerge from a Samsung research, conducted in collaboration with the Politecnico di Milano, which outlines the macro-trends and digital scenarios of the future connected to the expectations of Italians towards technology companies and their future innovations. The research was carried out on a sample of 1000 people, representative of the entire population aged 18 to 65, residing in Italy in October 2021.

Technology for everyone

What about the future? To improve the quality of life and the future, Italians think it is necessary that technology companies put sustainability at the center of their strategy, training and greater accessibility of technology so that it is truly within everyone’s reach, respectively by 54%, 27% and 19% of the interviewees.

Sustainability, from the smart home to the smart city

According to the study, the Smart Home, the innovative home, is the place to start to reduce one’s impact on the environment: 54% of respondents associate the smart home with ability to control and reduce consumption, 37% believe that, thanks to a connected home, it is possible to make their home life more sustainable.

But sustainability is also among the characteristics considered most relevant for a smart city; for 48% of the interviewees, in fact, the Smart City must reflect the idea of ​​a sustainable place in full respect of the planet and the needs of the individual.

Education and new technologies

According to the sample, the education sector can also benefit from the new technologies they have the ability to revolutionize current teaching and to move it towards a more hybrid approach. 87% of respondents are confident that technology will positively impact the quality of education.

Furthermore, the Italians hope for a radical change in future educational scenarios: for example, 30% of the sample imagines a didactic where augmented reality will allow them to follow fully immersive and interactive classroom or remote lessons.

A third of the interviewees are also convinced that digital will increasingly play a role as an engine of employment, if supported by a greater dissemination of adequate skills and from the study of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics), essential to be able to fully exploit the benefits of new technologies.
