Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has announced an agreement to sign a three-year action plan with China aimed at “implementing new forms of cooperation.” This was reported by the ANSA agency, citing Meloni’s statement during an official visit to Beijing, Day.Az reports, citing TASS.

The Prime Minister took part in a forum of entrepreneurs from the two countries. “This business forum is an important and valuable opportunity to strengthen our partnership, assess our strengths and weaknesses, understand what has worked and what has not, and this will allow us to build more effective trade relations on an equal and mutually beneficial basis,” Meloni said.

Her government withdrew from Beijing’s Belt and Road Initiative, a memorandum of participation signed by Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte in 2019. The cooperation envisaged increasing trade and the possibility of using Italian ports to implement the concept of activating multilateral trade and investment projects proposed by Chinese President Xi Jinping in 2013. Italy was the only G7 country to join the initiative.
