The Paris 2024 Paralympics for the blue delegation has been “Extraordinary. Even before departing because we were the largest delegation ever, and also in terms of results. Our reference target was Tokyo, and we have gone beyond not only regarding medals but also in the medal ranking, which is the representation of what matters, of how the various Paralympic committees are moving.” This was stated by the president of Cip Luca Pancalli during the closing press conference of the Paris Paralympic Games at Casa Italia. At the French Games, Italy won 71 medals, compared to 69 in Tokyo.

“The flag bearers for the closing ceremony will be Dominiziana Mecenate and Ndiaga Dieng. We chose two fourth places. It was a very considered choice, also in the wake of President Mattarella’s words. Two fourth places in swimming and athletics, which are the richest disciplines. And they are the two youngest fourth places, this to send the political signal that we are looking far ahead. By rewarding them, we demonstrate that we are looking forward. I could have chosen many athletes at the end of their careers with numerous appearances, but this choice is the signal that the Paralympic movement is looking ahead.”
