On June 28, 1969, transvestites, transsexuals, gays, lesbians and bisexuals transformed the Stonewall Bar in New York (USA), into the scene of a protest against repression and lack of rights. The Stonewall Rebellion has become the reference point of a revolt movement against the historical, hypocritical and self-righteous oppression that seeks to condemn LGBT+ people to invisibility. Since then, thanks to hard and continuous struggles, many things have changed, but homobitransphobia continues to persecute and oppress millions of people.

The PDAC brochure for Pride

In Italy, Meloni’s far-right government never misses an opportunity to attack LGBT+ people. The appointments of “La Russa” [Meloni] and Fontana –always hostile to homosexual unions– to the presidency of the Senate and the House speak for themselves. The minister “of the family, birth and equal opportunities” (¡ sic! ), Roccella, is at the forefront of the battle against the registration of children of LGBT couples. The lack of sponsorship on the part of the Lazio Region, governed by the right, of the Pride of Rome is only one of the many expressions of the reactionary and homobitransphobic character of this government.
But we cannot forget the actions of previous governments, which defended LGBT+ people only in words, without implementing any specific policy in their defense (listening centers, financing and real protection, counter-information in schools, etc.). During all the governments in which the PD has participated, the M5s [Movimiento 5 Estrellas] or the Left [Izquierda] Italy, no serious investment has been made to counter, for example, the violence that trans, gay and bisexual people are forced to endure on a daily basis. No intervention plan has been put in place to address homobitransphobia in workplaces and schools. The same insipid “Zan” bill – which was never approved – served the Democratic Party only to try to justify in the eyes of its electorate the participation in the reactionary government of Draghi in alliance with the Salvini League in the eyes of its electorate.
We are in the square in the days of LGBT+ pride, we proudly raise our flags together with those of the rainbow, in the awareness that the fight against prejudice and discrimination is placed on a very specific side: that of the oppressed and exploited. Those who suffer the most from violence and discrimination are the poor sectors, LGBT+ workers (many times forced to hide their sexual tastes in order not to lose their jobs), unemployed youth and students, who, unable to pay the rent, many times they have to live in hostile and homobitransphobic families. The battle against homobitransphobia is a class battle. That is what the Stonewall Revolt taught us. Unfortunately, this fighting tradition has been abandoned by some Pride promoters. [Orgullo], who seek to transform these important demonstrations into profit opportunities for economic sponsors, interested only in profiting from the “pink market”. We are in the streets to reaffirm our independence from all bourgeois governments.
To counter homobitransphobia with deeds and not just words, it is necessary to tear down capitalism, build a socialist economy that expropriates private capital and banks, thus recovering all the necessary resources for economic investments to protect the exploited and oppressed. But to achieve this goal we must build an international revolutionary party that unites the struggles against discrimination with those of the workers, in an anti-system perspective.

LGBT+ pride for us is also communist pride!
