Death toll rises to 62 after boat carrying refugees capsizes in Italy
More than 150 refugees are said to have been on board the boat that capsized in Italy’s southern waters on Sunday. When the boat hit a rock in mid-ocean and capsized, debris washed up on the local beach.
The death toll has risen to 62 following the recovery of the bodies of the deceased. Earlier, 27 people who were involved in the accident swam to shore. More than 20 people were rescued by the Italian Coast Guard.
Search operations are currently underway at the accident site. As many people have gone missing in this accident, it is feared that the death toll may rise further.
Most of those who died in the accident lost their lives in Afghanistan. Apart from this, the officials said that there were also people from countries like Pakistan and Iraq who were in the accident boat.
