The Italian Foreign Ministry has sent a letter to the Iranian ambassador in Rome calling for the prevention of escalation in the region, Day.Az reports with reference to TASS.

As indicated in the statement of the Foreign Ministry, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on the instructions of the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Deputy Prime Minister of Italy Antonio Tajani, held a meeting with the Iranian diplomat, during which “the first formal step was taken in the form of transmitting a message to Tehran.”

In particular, the message to the Iranian authorities, supported by the G7 countries, which Italy chairs, calls for restraint and the prevention of further escalation.

“It is important for Italy that the new administration led by President Masoud Pezeshkian and all Iranian institutions follow the path of dialogue with Europe and with all countries in the region. Italy and the G7 are always ready to participate in any political and diplomatic activity aimed at de-escalation,” the statement said.
