Italy sets the date for the extraordinary G20 summit on Afghanistan

Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi has set next October 12 as the date for the extraordinary G20 summit on Afghanistan.

Draghi said during a press conference in Rome that Afghanistan’s neighboring countries will participate in the extraordinary G20 summit, as well as other countries including the Netherlands, Spain, Qatar and United Nations agencies, stressing that Afghanistan’s neighboring countries are “fully concerned with the Afghan crisis and their voice will be heard.”
The Italian Prime Minister reaffirmed that the extraordinary summit will focus on humanitarian aid to “save lives and avoid a humanitarian catastrophe” in Afghanistan, as well as working “to ensure that Afghanistan does not again become a haven for terrorists.”
