The Bangladeshi movie ‘Maina’ has been nominated in the full-length film competition category at the 10th session of one of Europe’s most prestigious Gulf of Naples Independent Film Festivals. The Gulf of Naples Independent Film Festival will begin on June 11 on the beaches of Italy’s Naples Bay. The curtain of this festival will come down on June 14.

The movie ‘Maina’ was directed by Manjurul Islam Megh. The film is written and produced by Alim Ullah Khokon under the banner of Jaz Multimedia and the screenplay, dialogues are also written by Megh.

The film ‘Maina’ depicts the harsh realities of family life and the growing up of a girl in a middle-class family in rural Bangladesh, the struggling days of the city. The movie featured Raj Ripa, Kayes Arju, Aman Reza, Affan Mitul, Jilani, Subrata, Momena Chowdhury, Nader Chowdhury, Khalilur Rahman Qadri, Suchna Sikdar, Anwar, Shimant, Smriti Rani Devi, Tahmina Mona, Montu, Sohail, Sabbir, child artist Jannatul Bhor. Apan and Shishir Sardar acted in special roles.

Alim Ullah Khokon, producer of the movie ‘Maina’ said, “We are impressed with the international success of ‘Maina’. We have produced and continue to produce many good and successful movies from Jazz Multimedia. As we have created heroes and heroines, we have also created new directors. Our ‘Maina’ is being appreciated in festivals of different countries. Hopefully, ‘Maina’ will be successful and appreciated in Bangladesh as well.”

A film from Asia has been selected at the Gulf of Naples Independent Film Festival. And that is – ‘Maina’. Referring to this information, director Manjurul Islam Megh said, “For us, the nomination of a Bangladeshi film in a festival in Europe means more than the joy of receiving an award. The Gulf of Naples Independent Film Festival is Italy’s most prestigious film festival. Films from the United States, Canada, Spain, Italy, Mexico, Morocco and Bangladesh have been featured in the festival’s feature film competition. ‘Maina’ will compete as the only film in Asia, it is a victory for Bengali films.”

‘Maina’ has received several prestigious awards. Director Manjurul Islam Megh said, “Our movie ‘Maina’ has been nominated for the 21st Aporia International Village Film Festival 2024 in South Korea. Earlier, ‘Maina’ won the Best Film Production Award at the 25th EMMAS BBC Festival of Multicultural 2023 in London. ‘Maina’ is taking place in the prestigious festivals of different countries of the world, I am getting inspiration to do better work in the future, I want to give this achievement to my team.”

Along with the premiere of the movie ‘Maina’ in South Korea, director Megh will participate in a 15-day international film workshop. He will conduct joint workshops with 16 veteran directors from different countries and discuss films. Aporia, held in South Korea, is called the Olympics of cinema, although it has been held for the past 20 years, this is the first time Bangladeshi film ‘Maina’ has been nominated, the director said.
