Minister of National Security Itamar Ben Gabir held a discussion in his office today (Thursday) on the issue of crime in Arab society, this against the background of the recent murders. The discussion was attended by, among others, the head of the police department, as well as representatives of the state attorney’s office, the National Security Agency, the Shin Bet, the Tax Authority and the Ministry of Justice.

According to the minister’s words during the meeting, he decided “to personally lead the ‘safe route’ program, to fight crime in the Arab sector and not as it was in the previous term.” The minister also said that he would try to maintain a regular dialogue with leaders from the Arab society, and examine together methods of action to fight crime and restore governance.
However, the minister clarified in a statement issued on his behalf: “It will be emphasized that the conversation is planned to be with many leaders from Arab society, however, it goes without saying that the minister does not intend at all to hold talks with leaders who support terrorism and those who declare that they do not recognize the Jewish and democratic State of Israel.” .
