SÃO PAULO, SP (FOLHAPRESS) – Brazilian diplomacy has mobilized other left-wing Latin American governments for a rare joint note condemning Israel’s decision to build new settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories.
The demonstration, released on Friday (17), is signed by Brazil, Argentina, Chile and Mexico. The text harshly criticizes the Israeli action.
The suggestion came from Itamaraty, and the joint note was made possible in less than 48 hours. According to a diplomatic source, the strategy could be used more often in the government of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), whenever Brazil wants to reinforce some position.
The method also has the bonus of reinforcing Brazil’s leadership role in Latin America, and signaling that the country is back in regional diplomacy after the isolation of the government of Jair Bolsonaro (PL).
