SÃO PAULO (Reuters) – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated this Saturday that around 14 thousand Brazilians live in Israel and that 6 thousand live in Palestine, the vast majority, however, outside the area hit by attacks launched by Hamas and the Israeli army .

“To date, there is no record of national victims or those directly affected by the attacks,” Itamaraty said in a press release.

Hamas launched the biggest attack against Israel in years early this Saturday, firing thousands of rockets and using militants on the ground against Israeli regions.

Around 150 Israelis died and 1,100 were injured, according to media and local government reports. Meanwhile, around 200 Palestinians have been killed and more than 1,600 injured, according to Gaza health officials.

“The Representation Office in Ramallah maintains contact with representatives of the approximately thirty nationals (Brazilians) living in the Gaza Strip. The Embassy in Tel Aviv, in turn, monitors the situation of the estimated sixty Brazilians in Ashkelon (a city next to north of Gaza) and other locations in the conflict zone”, stated Itamaraty.
