Brazilian Air Force aircraft will depart for Israel
The second Brazilian Air Force (FAB) plane to repatriate Brazilians in Israel takes off this Monday afternoon (9), from Brasília, reported the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Since Saturday (7), Israel has been at war against the Hamas group.
The first plane had already left Brazil this Sunday (8) and landed in Rome, where it was awaiting authorization from Israel to repatriate. Now, both aircraft have been authorized to land in the country.
To date, the Brazilian embassy in Tel Aviv, Israel, has collected data from around 1,700 Brazilians who want to be repatriated. Most of them are tourists staying in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem.
According to Itamaraty, candidates for repatriation will be accommodated on priority lists. At first, residents of Brazil who do not have a plane ticket will be prioritized. According to Itamaraty, around 14 thousand Brazilians reside in Israel and 6 thousand in Palestine.
“In view of the uncertainty regarding the moment in which repatriation flights may take place, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterates the recommendation that all nationals who have airline tickets, or who are able to acquire them, board commercial flights from Benfica airport. Gurion, which continues to operate”, advises the department, in a note.
Itamaraty reports three Brazilians missing in the region, all binationals. They were at an electronic music festival that took place on Saturday in the southern district of Israel, less than 20 kilometers from the Gaza Strip. The event was the target of attack by the Hamas group.
