“Shame”: turmoil at a historic gala
Cole Palmer is unstoppable against Everton. Chelsea’s shooting star delivers a historic show and trumps probably the club’s greatest legend. But there is a stir with his own colleagues because of the execution of a penalty – coach Pochettino is also angry.
What a gala performance including some internal excitement – Chelsea FC has a new superstar in its ranks!

Cole Palmer ensured a historic evening at the Blues’ Premier League home game against Everton FC. The attacking midfielder scored four goals in the 6-0 win and put on a real show. “Everything is happening so quickly. We started well and I scored another hat-trick. “Excellent,” Palmer said afterwards on Sky.
Chelsea coach Mauricio Pochettino added: “He’s doing fantastically. When we got him he was a talent. But his influence from day one was huge. He adapted perfectly.”

Remarkable: Before the 1-0, Palmer had tunnelled his opponent Jarrad Branthwaite and then finished with his left (13th). This was followed by a header to make it 2-0 (18th) and a right-foot shot from almost 30 meters into the empty goal for the third goal (29th) – it was also the fastest hat trick in Blues history.
Trouble about penalty execution – Pochettino angry
That’s not all – including an internal upset: In the second half, Palmer also scored the 5-0 with a penalty (64th) – and resolutely held his own against his own teammates Noni Madueke and Nicolas Jackson.
Background: The two stars wanted to take the penalty instead of Palmer – and were anything but happy that the 21-year-old didn’t back down despite the number of goals he had already scored.
What’s more, Palmer even pushed Jackson away at the point. In view of the altercation, Pochettino also looked irritated on the sidelines.

Palmer reassured us afterwards: “Others wanted to shoot too, but I’m the shooter. We show that everyone wants to take responsibility. That may be a bit of an exaggeration. But we laugh and joke about the scene.”

Palmer breaks a bunch of records
But the coach didn’t see the scene as relaxed; it looked a bit like kindergarten – quite the opposite. “It’s a shame. I already told the players that it was the last time. I won’t see anything like that again. I don’t accept that. I apologize to the fans.”
Either way, Palmer set a new record with his performance. Never before had a Chelsea player managed to score in seven consecutive home games. So far, club legends Eidur Gudjohnsen and Didier Drogba have shared the record with six goals each.
Even Liverpool icon Jamie Carragher openly admitted on Sky: “I love Cole Palmer. He is fantastic. He gets the ball in the penalty area under a lot of pressure – and it looks like he has all the time in the world.”
Palmer, who came from Manchester City for 47 million euros before the season, is leading the Blues further and further up the table. After a furious comeback in recent weeks, sixth place is now only three points away – with one game less than rivals Newcastle.
Palmer draws level with Haaland
The playmaker has now scored an outstanding 20 goals in 28 league games for Chelsea and also provided nine assists. Palmer had already scored the latest goal in league history against Manchester United in the 101st minute and also converted all of his first nine penalties in the Premier League.
A record that had never been heard before by anyone of his age. Now Palmer can even become top scorer, leading the scorer list together with Erling Haaland (Manchester City).
Incidentally, the last time a Chelsea star scored more goals in a season was Frank Lampard in 2009/2010 – Palmer was eight years old at the time.
