Time.news – There is a legal battle surrounding the auctioning of Bruxelles of an original drawing by Albert Uderzo from 1963, the cover of “Asterix and Cleopatra”, a tempera measuring 32×17 cm, whose value is estimated between 400,000 and 500,000 euros. The person putting it up for sale is the son of a man who became its owner more than 50 years ago “following a donation made by Albert Uderzo”, assures the auction house.
But Sylvie Uderzo, the designer’s daughter, disputes ownership of the work and at the end of November instructed a French lawyer to file a complaint with the Brussels Prosecutor’s Office for “abuse of trust or theft”.
In the drawing Uderzo makes a parody of the poster of the Hollywood production of 1963 “Cleopatra”, at the time the most expensive film in history. Uderzo’s Cleopatra has the same pose as Elizabeth Taylor, Asterix replaces Julius Caesar played by Rex Harrison and Obelix Mark Antony, played by Richard Burton.
