Jaguar has unveiled its all-electric Type 01, a four-door grand tourer with 1,016 horsepower, a 450-mile range, and a starting price of £130,000 ($172,426). The car, designed to reposition the brand for a younger, tech-savvy audience, features a radical design with no rear window and a 17% luxury gap between the bulkhead and front axle.
Performance and Range: A 1,016 HP Grand Tourer
The Type 01’s tri-motor powertrain delivers 1,016 horsepower and 1,007 lb-ft of torque, accelerating from 0-62 mph in 3.2 seconds. Its 118kWh battery provides a 450-mile WLTP range, with 99.7% of journeys theoretically achievable without charging. The car’s 850V architecture supports 350kW rapid charging, adding 221 miles of range in 13 minutes. Jaguar claims a 0.23Cd drag coefficient, making it the most aerodynamic Jag yet.
Despite its size—5.23 meters long and 1.4 meters tall—Glover argued the Type 01’s turning circle of a Fiat 500
and all-wheel steering make it maneuverable. However, its length has sparked debate, with critics noting it won’t fit in standard UK parking spaces. There are long cars on the market,
Glover said, citing the Land Rover Defender as a comparable example.
What Comes Next for Jaguar?
Jaguar’s bold gamble—launching an all-electric, four-door GT without a plug-in hybrid option—has drawn both praise and skepticism. As Glover put it, The greatest danger facing a brand isn’t being disliked. It’s being ignored.
The Type 01’s ability to strike a balance between innovation and tradition may determine Jaguar’s future in the luxury EV market.
