During the day, the number of victims of poisoning with counterfeit alcohol in the Orenburg region has sharply increased. Of the 37 victims, 18 died. Parents of five children were among the dead. While the security forces and officials found one warehouse, three points of sale of illegal alcohol and detained six people in criminal cases about its production and sale. Now they are looking for new points of counterfeiting, its possible victims and manufacturers.

Currently, 37 victims of surrogate alcohol poisoning have been recorded in the Orenburg region, of which 18 have died. The regional government informs about it. “In the hospitals of Orsk, Yasny and Adamovka, 15 people receive treatment, two of them are in extremely serious condition on ventilators. The best narcologists and resuscitators work with patients in the east of the Orenburg region, ”the message says.

Among the dead were, for example, a 67-year-old pensioner, whose body was found in a KamAZ car, and two spouses in the village of Akzharskoye, who left five children. “This is a low-income family, but they are characterized positively by place of residence,” said Angelica Linkova, Orenburg Orenburg Ombudsman, on her Instagram account. Now the children are under the care of their aunt in Yasnoye. They are assigned to the educational organizations of the city that they will attend.

Orenburg Region Governor Denis Pasler instructed municipal officials to help the family. If necessary, they will be allocated funds from the reserve fund of the head of the region, the relatives of the victims will receive assistance for burial.

According to the information of the vice-governor – Minister of Health of the Orenburg region Tatyana Savinova, the victims were previously identified in four settlements in the east of the Orenburg region: in Krasny Chaban (Dombarovsky region), in the village of Akzharskoye in Yasnoye, in Dzhasai in the Adamovsky region and in Orsk. In addition, one of the patients escaped from the Orsk hospital after receiving antidote therapy.

“Last night, our laboratories completed the study of the biological material of the blood of the affected patients. A high concentration of pure methanol was found in it: 4–5 µg per liter. This is not just a lethal dose, it is an excess of it by five or six times, ”said Tatiana Savinova.

On these facts, five criminal cases were initiated under Part 3 of Art. 238 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (production and sale of goods that do not meet safety requirements, resulting in the death of more than two persons by negligence), clause “a”, part 6 of Art. 171.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (production, purchase, storage, transportation for the purpose of marketing or sale of unmarked alcohol subject to mandatory labeling with excise stamps on a large scale by a group of persons by prior conspiracy) and Part 1 of Art. 171.3 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (illegal production and circulation of ethyl alcohol, alcoholic and alcohol-containing products on a large scale). They are combined into one production.

The security forces have identified a base in Orsk where counterfeit alcohol – vodka – was sold. They seized over 1.2 thousand 0.5 liter bottles, including 560 plastic ones.

What brand the liquid was sold under is not reported.

As part of the investigation, law enforcement officers detained six people. The main suspect was a 29-year-old resident of Orsk, who was charged with the illegal production and sale of dangerous alcohol-containing products on a large scale. A 60-year-old resident of the village of Akzharskoye and a 47-year-old resident of the village of Krasnochabansky, Dombarovsky district, who were selling alcohol, were also detained. In addition, the defendants in the criminal cases were a 50-year-old resident of the village of Jasai, in whose home 132 counterfeit bottles were found and seized, and two residents of Orsk, 34 and 35 years old, who are relatives of the main suspect and who were also suspected of mass production of illegal alcohol.

Investigators will petition for the arrest of the detainees.

One of the suspects explained to the security officials that he had bought counterfeit goods at a wholesale depot in the “old town” from unknown persons and did not know that alcohol was life-threatening.

Ten plastic bottles with a surrogate, which he was going to spill, and several glass ones were seized from the man.

In connection with the situation in the east of the Orenburg region, a team of narcologists and resuscitators is working, the necessary ventilators have been supplied to the institutions, the sanitary aviation has been prepared for work. Officials, doctors and law enforcement officers are looking for new victims of poisoning. They conduct household visits to the population, including socially disadvantaged families.

Vice-Governor Dmitry Kulagin instructed the heads of the Orenburg region to engage in the work of the people’s guards, social workers and management companies who may know residents who abuse alcohol and lead an asocial lifestyle. The danger of buying illegal alcohol is explained to the population; information is also disseminated through the chats of parents of students of educational institutions in the region.

The prosecutor’s office of the Orenburg region has opened a “hot line” on the facts of the illegal sale of alcohol. You can report them every day until October 15, from 9:00 to 18:00 (MSK + 2) at 8 (3532) 20-04-84. The supervisory authority has already responded to the first reports. For example, Kuvandyk prosecutors discovered two Internet sites selling alcohol remotely with home delivery. Ten more such sites were discovered by the supervisory department of the Adamovsky district, five – in the Akbulaksky district, seven – in the Dzerzhinsky district of Orenburg. Information on them was transferred to Roskomnadzor.

Currently, the police and officials of the regional administrations are conducting raids on retail outlets and seizing unlicensed alcohol. According to the head of Orsk, Vasily Kozupitsa, on his Instagram account, about a hundred retail outlets will be checked in the city by the end of the day.

Prosecutors have already seized 65 bottles of alcohol in one of the local shops in the village of Pilyugino, Buguruslansky District, in the village of Aleksandrovka, Alexandrovsky District, 50 bottles without excise stamps, in the village of Novotroitskoye, Oktyabrsky District, 63 unmarked bottles of alcohol, and in the village of Novonikitino, 21 bottles with signs of counterfeit. Another 58 containers with alcohol were found and seized in the village of Dombarovskiy, of which – “20 plastic bottles without identification marks with unknown contents.”

In addition, 32.5 liters of alcohol-containing liquid were found and confiscated at home from a resident of Orenburg.

The woman kept alcohol in plastic cans without marking and identification marks, diluted it with water and bottled it for sale.

Alcohol is sent for examination, which will establish its chemical composition and check the liquid for danger to the life and health of citizens. As noted in the government of the Orenburg region, “the police are not sure that the closed warehouse in Orsk was the only one in the region.”
