What hurts is to say that it is the Republic that is being targeted again. We are 26,000 inhabitants here. And there are 30 of them… We have chosen to live according to the values ​​and laws of the Republic. We will continue. »

Firefighters and law enforcement made their first observations in the middle of the night. The first investigations carried out using videos from the municipality revealed the profile of the arsonists: two individuals dressed in black and hooded, who broke the driver’s side window, spread an flammable product in the passenger compartment then set it on fire before to flee.

A situation that has “become hellish” in the city

A little earlier in the evening, around 8:20 p.m., several “very young” people appear on the tapes as they circle around the Renault Twingo. An hour later, another individual approached in turn, before the arrival of the two arsonists. Sonia Brau filed a complaint during the night. The police investigation continues in flagrante delicto.

“Elected officials are not safe in our country,” immediately reacted Philippe Benassaya, his partner on the departmental council in the canton of Saint-Cyr and candidate for the presidency of the Republicans in Yvelines. We must protect them and give them the means to act. They are the pillars of our Republic. »

In mid-September, the day after a violent brawl which left four people injured and gave rise to five arrests, the mayor of Saint-Cyr-l’École relayed to Le Parisien her growing concern about a situation “became hellish” in his city, already heavily affected by the riots linked to the death of Nahel in Nanterre (Hauts-de-Seine).

After the September episode which pitted young people from Saint-Cyr and Trappes against each other, the elected official took up her pen to challenge the Minister of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin. “The situation is untenable for the police. It is also for all residents who pay taxes. The response must be national,” she insisted, pleading for the arrival of new reinforcements in the police stations.

This Friday morning, she believes that the fire of her vehicle, “clearly targeted as the mayor’s car”, is “certainly” a response to this position. “In recent weeks,” she explains, “I have already been insulted and called names when I travel around the town. »

On August 31, Nicolas Dainville, the mayor (DVD) of La Verrière, was the target of a similar attack while he accompanied a television crew for a report around the Bois-de-l’ school.
