“I took a picture with IU and hugged her, I’m so happy and I can’t believe it, it’s a dream come true.”
Zev Latet (76), a well-known American grandfather fan of singer and actress IU, posted a video titled ‘The day after I met IU, wow!’ on his YouTube channel on July 31 (Korean time).
In the video, Mr. Latet excitedly talked about meeting IU with his wife at her concert held at the Oakland Arena in the United States on July 30th. Mr. Latet started the video by saying, “Hello~” in fluent Korean, and then revealed a photo he took with IU, saying he had something to show.
Mr. Latet said, “My wife and I took a picture with IU. There were a lot of fans at the concert and the concert was really amazing. I was so happy and couldn’t believe it. I talked to IU for 15 minutes.”
He then said, “IU hugged me and I hugged her back. It was a dream come true. Thank you so much. You made the concert perfect. I also met IU’s younger brother, and he was very kind.”
Mr. Latet retired after working as a software engineer for 30 years and has been posting reaction videos about K-pop, dramas, IU’s acting and songs since February. He currently has 15,000 subscribers. He also joined the IU fan club ‘Uaena’ himself and became a topic of conversation as ‘Uaena Grandpa’. After hearing this story, IU invited Mr. Latet and his wife to her overseas tour concert held in Oakland, USA on the 30th of last month, and the two met.
Mr. Latet was selected through a competition with a rate of 3,200 to 1 at the ‘Korea Invite You’ event held by the Korean government in May, where he invited ‘true fans’ of Korean content from around the world, and set foot on Korean soil.
Meanwhile, IU is currently on a North American tour and will be holding her final concert in Los Angeles on the 2nd.
