MADRID, 17 May. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish MotoGP rider Augusto Fernández (KTM) remembers that his arrival at the World Championship “was by a different path than the traditional one” and that although his “idol” has always been the Italian Valentino Rossi, he has always wanted to “ride” as his compatriot Marc Márquez (Repsol Honda) and “copy his style”.

“My arrival in MotoGP was through a different path than the traditional one. I started in a ‘parking’ with ‘Chicho’ Lorenzo and we had no goal of getting anywhere, I just liked motorcycles. We went there to try and learn to ride motorcycle, but ‘Chicho’, who is also very competitive, was very focused on races and races. We saw that I was good at it and so far”, Fernández recounted in his visit to the space ‘La Caja de DAZN’.

The Madrid rider signed a brilliant fourth place last Sunday in the French Grand Prix and so far he is having a good debut in the ‘queen’ category to which he was promoted after being Moto2 world champion last year.

“Yes, I feel like a MotoGP rider, but I’m in a process of adaptation. I’ve gone from fighting for victory every weekend to trying to get good positions, I still have a lot of work to do,” acknowledged the KTM rider.

Fernández does not hide the fact that Marc Márquez, eight times world champion, has been the one who has “drenched himself the most as a driver”, despite his preference for Valentino Rossi. “I have always had Valentino as an idol, but I have always wanted to drive like Marc and since I arrived I have tried to copy his style”, he confessed.

“When I finish my career full of successes on motorcycles, which I still have a long way to go, I would like to go to Formula 1, that has been my dream as a perfect race, it is a bit like Valentino has done,” he clarified in this regard.

Regarding his height, 1.80 meters which make him the third tallest on the grid, he admits that “height and weight have become an obsession”. “The tall ones also have our advantages and we have to take advantage of them and take advantage of them instead of always complaining. Now, in MotoGP I am more relieved, but they are still shorter than me. I asked Pol (Espargaró) how much he weighed, and he got 10 kilos, so I couldn’t relax,” he said.
