Carnival was hers. When Ivete Sangalo got on the electric trio on Thursday (8), the official opening of the party in Salvador, a crowd was waiting for her under an inclement sun in Castro Alves square.
When starting the first chords of “Macetando”, a bet for this year’s Carnival, she already had the audience in hand. Days later, the song reached first place on the Spotify Brazil charts, an unprecedented feat for an axé artist in the streaming era.
The consecration in the year in which he completes 30 years of career was accompanied by setbacks. The singer’s five days of Carnival parades in Salvador were marked by traffic jams, delays, technical problems, crying and farewell speech.
This Tuesday (13), accompanied by a crowd of fans in a trio without strings, Ivete stated that the word “give up” does not exist in her dictionary and defended a renegotiation for Carnival.
“Giving up is a word that doesn’t exist in my dictionary. A woman like me, I don’t even know how to conjugate that verb. I have no idea,” said the singer on the Campo Grande circuit.
The statement was made one day after he cried and gave a farewell speech following a series of incidents with his electric trio in the Coruja block, which paraded on the Barra-Ondina circuit.
“This is filling my heart with anguish. […] Isn’t today our farewell to Owl? Don’t we have to rethink this?” he asked, after an incident involving a carbon dioxide tube from his electric trio that left two people with minor injuries.
The singer even stopped the performance and sought to reassure the revelers who were following her parade. Due to the incident, the team decided to remove guests from the trio for safety reasons.
Moments before, the electric trio was tilted to the right side and the guests who were on top of the vehicle were instructed to go to the other side, to counterbalance the weight.
In previous days, the singer faced setbacks that included a traffic jam at electric trios and a three-hour delay in the start of the first Coruja block parade, on Saturday (10).
At the time, he had to perform a type of crowd management, playing slower music during moments of greatest pressure on the circuit — on Saturday alone, a million people gathered on the Barra-Ondina circuit, according to data from the police’s easy-to-recognize cameras. Bahian.
Later, at the end of a journey of almost seven hours, Ivete had a meeting with Baby do Brasil, who was in the box of a TV station. After full praise for Baby, whom he called a reference, they sang together the song “Menino do Rio”, by Caetano Veloso.
After participating, Baby spoke into the microphone again, Said the “apocalypse is near” and called on revelers to seek Jesus Christ. Ivete reacted with good humor: “There is no right apocalypse when we cheat on the apocalypse”, he said, before singing the hit “Macetando”. O dialogue immediately became a meme.
This Tuesday, Ivete started her last parade at 1pm on the Campo Grande circuit, in the center of Salvador. This time, it was a parade without ropes and open to all revelers. Upon joining the trio, he joked with the fans.
“Today I woke up and said: ‘Who are you, woman? Who are you, woman who wakes up hotter every day? More renewed, more strong? Who is this woman who is blessed every day with faith and the light of God?'” he said.
Then, in a more serious tone, he said he would work for a renegotiation during Carnival. In a calling tone, he gave a speech at the electric trio talking about rethinking the party, but without giving details about his ideas.
“What I’m going to do is renegotiate the wheel because I see a portal of unbelievable opportunities. And I’m not just talking to myself, I’m talking to us, because I’m not going anywhere alone,” he stated.
Afterwards, he thanked God and explained the previous day’s statements again: “[Agradeço] to Him, the greatest of all, the one who transforms and that’s why I spoke yesterday [terça-feira]. Because He gave me a transformation and I will transform because it will be better for me and for you.”
After crossing the walkway in Campo Grande square, Ivete got off the electric trio: went wild, throwing himself into the arms of the crowd, while singing “We Are the World of Carnival”, a classic from Bahia’s carnival songbook.
The singer is still leaving this Tuesday for Belo Horizonte, where she will be the main attraction of a private party in the capital of Minas Gerais. It will be the sixth performance in six days of Carnival.
