jpnn.comJAKARTA – As an archipelagic country with the fourth largest population in the world, it is not easy for Indonesia to provide health insurance (jamkes) for all its residents.

However, in fact, since BPJS Kesehatan has been running for 10 years, more than 97% of the Indonesian population has been protected by the National Health Insurance Program (JKN).

It is not surprising that the rapid growth of JKN membership has made many countries interested in exploring the secrets behind it, including the Ivory Coast.

According to the Minister of Employment and Social Protection of Ivory Coast, Adama Kamara, his country implements health insurance for local residents, including Foreign Nationals (WNA) living there.

This social security is a kind of insurance that guarantees doctor’s consultation fees, hospital fees, and all aspects of health.

“We are also a haven for foreigners, so their access to health insurance must also be taken into account,” he said during a comparative study visit to the BPJS Kesehatan Head Office, Friday (12/7).

According to him, there are two systems used, namely a health insurance system with contributions from the population and without contributions.

“The health system in Ivory Coast is still very young, so we are interested in learning how health insurance is managed in Indonesia by BPJS Kesehatan,” he said.
