The president of the Confederation of Indigenous Nationalities of Ecuador (Conaie), Leonidas Iza, assured yesterday that its members will return to the communities to spend the funeral holiday and analyze in assemblies the actions they will take to demand changes from the Government of Guillermo Lasso.

“We are not going to suspend (the demonstrations) but only return to celebrate the dead because we are respectful of the traditions of our people,” he said before dozens of followers in an Andean town.

The country will begin a five-day holiday on Saturday for All Souls’ Day and the Independence of Cuenca.

“We are going to make a little bridge, many families come from the cities to greet our families, to share a drink, to share with our brothers who have left,” Iza noted.

And he added that assemblies will be established in the communities to continue analyzing the situation, as well as the new government invitation to advance in a dialogue on November 10.
