Izvestia announced plans of confectioners to raise prices at the beginning of winter

by time news

The largest manufacturers in the confectionery market are planning to raise prices for their products in the near future, Izvestia reports, citing a source in the Verny supermarket chain. In early November, this retailer received a letter from the Akkond factory in Cheboksary (it also cooperates with Magnit, X5 Group, Auchan, Lenta, Metro and Fixprice) warning of an increase in the cost of goods from December 1 to December 4, 7-20.5%.

The manufacturer explained his decision by the rise in prices for raw materials, packaging and fuels and lubricants. In addition, it is necessary to ensure stable supply to the network, said in “Verny”, noting that the store always before the New Year – in the period of increasing demand for sweets – receives similar letters from manufacturers.

The brands Krasny Oktyabr, Babaevsky and Korkunov increased their prices by 6% in October. They took a similar step earlier this spring. As stated in the X5 Group (includes Pyaterochka, Perekrestok and Karusel), the cost of products increased due to the rise in prices for flour, sugar, fats and other products necessary for confectioners. At the same time, a representative of the group noted that in stores such goods are growing in price at a slower pace, since the retailer “dampens the growth of purchase prices by saving its own costs.”

The Ministry of Agriculture, commenting on the situation, said that the increase in the selling price of confectionery products is not systemic and affects only individual enterprises and goods. The department explained what was happening by the rise in the cost of packaging, raw materials, electricity, transport services and other components of the cost.

According to Rosstat, annual inflation in October this year was 8.13%, which is twice the central bank’s target of 4%. Food inflation was even higher at 10.89%. Over the month, food prices have risen by 2.17%. By November 15, food inflation in annual terms slightly decreased – to 10.64%.

Since the beginning of 2021, the cost of soft sweets glazed with chocolate has grown by 6.51% on average across the country, according to Rosstat. At the same time, over the last reporting week, by November 15, prices fell by 0.03%.
