Thiruvananthapuram: JC 2020 for lifetime contribution to the Malayalam film industry. Famous playback singer P. Jayachandran won the Daniel Award. The state government’s highest film award carries a cash prize of Rs 5 lakh, a certificate and a sculpture.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will present the award at the Secretariat Durbar Hall on the 23rd, Minister Saji Cherian said. Director Adoor Gopalakrishnan Chairman, actor and screenwriter Ranji Panicker, actress Seema, Chalachithra Academy Chairman Kamal and Cultural Department Principal Secretary Rani George selected the winner.

The jury opined that P. Jayachandran, who has been in the film industry for more than half a century, has left his mark on the history of Malayalam film music.

In the movie ‘Kunjali Maraikkar’ in 1965, P. Jayachandran entered the field of playback singing by singing the song ‘Oru Mullappoomalayumai’ written by Bhaskaran to the music of Chidambaranath. He has sung over ten thousand songs in various languages. In 1985, he won the National Award for Best Singer. He has won the state award five times.
In 1992, J.C. Introduced by Daniel Award. In 2019, Hariharan was the winner. The prize money, which was Rs 1 lakh, was increased to Rs 5 lakh in 2016.
