J. Pinskus will urge the faction to support A. Kubilius’ candidacy to the EC: this is the president’s proposal

by times news cr

“As a state, we don’t have time to change something, so we should support him (A. Kubilių – ELTA) no matter how much we value him. All the more so since this is the provision of the president, and we support the president”, J. Pinskus said to Eltai.

The politician assures that he will express this position at the meeting of the faction of the Party of Regions of Lithuania to be held on Tuesday.

“Tomorrow, before the Seimas session, we are meeting in the faction and after that, I think we will invite Mr. A. Kubilias to our faction and decisions will be made,” he said.

In the extraordinary session called on Tuesday, the Seimas should decide on the candidacy of A. Kubilius to the EC.

Earlier in the public sphere, the main discussion was about the possible candidacy of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Gabrielias Landsbergis, as a European Commissioner. However, he told Elta that he had received information that the president would not approve his candidacy. G. Landsbergis made it clear that previous conflicts with the Presidency – the so-called “Phantom of the Opera” scandal – could also have influenced this.

For its part, the Presidency not only rejected the accusations of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, but also emphasized that G. Nausėda “saved” the conservative leader from a “terrible humiliation”. According to Frederiks Jansons, the chief adviser to the president, it was almost obvious that not only the opposition, but also the ruling party, did not want to support G. Landsberg, who applied for the position of European commissioner.

The nomination of the Eurocommissioner is submitted by the Government after the position has been agreed with the President and the Seimas.
