According to “Delfi”, the classified material of the parliamentary commission considers that the former chief legal adviser of the president Gitana Nausėda may have had connections with persons related to the Belarusian fertilizer business. However, both the Presidency and J. Šovienė deny these connections.

“It’s some kind of misunderstanding. I have no connections with the fertilizer business”, said J. Šovienė.

At that time, Frederikas Jansons, the head of the country’s chief adviser on communication issues, assured that the outgoing president Dalia Grybauskaitė recommended J. Šovienė to the team.

He also indicated that the Presidency had no knowledge of the former adviser’s possible connections with the Belarusian fertilizer business.

ELTA reminds that the Seimas commission that examined the history of VSD speaker Tomas Gailius, after several months of analysis and the testimonies of dozens of officials, concluded that VSD leader Darius Jauniškis assisted the then candidate Gitan Nausėdas by collecting intelligence information about his environment.

The Seimas investigators conclude that the materials of the VSD directors about the candidate’s environment reached him through G. Nausėdas himself or a person acting on his behalf. It is also indicated that the information collected in the department could have been disclosed to G. Nausėda himself.

The conclusions of the investigation also state that during the parliamentary investigation, it became clear that the VSD investigated possible violations by financing the election campaign of the then candidate G. Nausėda.

It was also found out that G. Nausėda and members of his electoral staff in 2018-2019 maintained contacts with representatives of the Belarusian fertilizer business, met with them, and after becoming the head of the country, invited these persons to the events held at the Presidency.

The investigation commission also assessed the violations regarding the revealed identity of the whistleblower T. Gailaus – it is established that the director of the VSD, D. Jauniškis, is directly responsible for this.
