Speaking to “Basketnews” journalist Jonas Miklovus, the 32-year-old tall man expressed his support for another former captain of the Lithuanian national team – Roberts Javtokas.
“I like the idea of him, I like what he can bring. I think we need new winds, new energy, new results because we are standing still. I have known Robert for quite a long time, he is a really great authority.
I support the idea of managing basketball, and I see him as the best person out there right now to do that. I will definitely help him as much as I can,” J. Valančiūnas told the “Basketnews” portal.
The current general secretary of LKF, Mindaugas Balčiūnas, is running for the position of president this time, and he singles out the fact that he is a good manager as one of his strong qualities.
However, J. Valančiūnas believes that the post of president should be filled by a person who came from the world of basketball.
“I completely disagree with Mindaugas on this issue. Then let’s call it a business federation, or a federation of small businesses, – said JV. – This is a basketball federation in which sports are an integral part. We forget that sports part. We go to budgets, dating, but we forget that this is a basketball federation. Basketball comes first. We cannot forget the sports side. Someone is the authority and that side of basketball must be the most important. After that we go to communications, budgets, all other things that don’t touch basketball itself so much. But basketball is the most important thing.”
LKF presidential elections will be held on September 17.
