In August this year, the Reserve Bank of India issued a warning against online buying and selling of old notes and coins. The RBI said in a statement, “Some people are fraudulently using the name/logo of Reserve Bank of India and demanding fees/commission/taxes from the public in transactions related to purchase and sale of old currency notes and coins through various online and other entities.”

The Reserve Bank of India further stated that in connection with the sale, the Reserve Bank never demands fees or commissions and does not engage in such matters. It has also clarified that RBI does not authorize any organization, business, individual etc. to collect fees or commissions on its behalf in such transactions.
