India won the 2nd Test against Australia by 6 wickets on Sunday.
With this, India retained the trophy after winning 2 of the 4-match Border-Gavaskar Test series. Also, it has almost assured its place in the final of the World Test Championship.
Australia, who came in the 2nd innings of this Delhi Test, were bowled out for 113 runs in the Sunday morning session itself. Indian spinner Ravindra Jadeja completely destroyed the team’s batting line-up. With Ashwin to support him, Australia turned the spin.
India then chased down 114 runs and won by losing only 4 wickets. Jadeja became the “man of the match” with 10 wickets in both innings.
Earlier, Australia won the toss and batted in this Test which started on the 17th and were bowled out for 263 runs in the first innings. India, who played their innings next, stumbled a bit and ended the game at 262 runs. Australia started the 2nd innings with a lead of 1 run, and at the end of Saturday, they scored 61 runs for the loss of 1 wicket.
Day 3 continues on Sunday with Travis Head vs Marnus Lapuzan. In this partnership which added 42 runs for the 2nd wicket, Head got out for 43 runs including 6 fours and 1 six. Lapuzan made his way to 35 runs with 5 boundaries.
The batters that came after that didn’t hold up. They got out in single digit runs or zero. Steve Smith 9, Matthew Renshaw 2, Peter Handscomb 0, Alex Carey 7, Captain Pat Cummins 0, Nathan Lyon 8, Matthew Kuneman 0 wickets fell in sequence. Thus Australia’s 2nd innings ended on 113 runs.
Australia lost 9 wickets within 52 runs.
Jadeja took 7 wickets and Ashwin 3 wickets in Indian bowling.
Chasing a target of 114 runs, India won by 118 runs in 26.4 overs. Captain Rohit Sharma 31 with 2 sixes, KL Rahul 1, Virat Kohli 20 with 3 boundaries, Shreyas Iyer return to the pavilion for 12 runs, Cheteshwar Pujara 31 with 4 boundaries, Srikar Bharat 23 runs with 3 boundaries and 1 six to lead the team to victory. They were unbeaten.
Pujara, who was unable to score big runs in his 100th Test, hit a boundary for India’s victory as a consolation. In Australian bowling, Nathan Lyon took 2 wickets and Todd Murphy took 1 wicket. The 3rd match between the two teams will begin on March 1 in Indore.
