The British automaker Jaguar Land Rover announced the suspension of deliveries of new cars to Russia due to the military operation in Ukraine, Reuters reports citing the company’s press service.

“The current global business conditions complicate our trading activities, therefore we are forced to temporarily suspend the supply of vehicles to the Russian market, but we continue to monitor the situation and do everything in the interests of our customers,” the company said in a statement.

According to the newspaper, this move was supported by the British Minister for Enterprise, Energy and Industrial Strategy Quasi Kwarteng.

Earlier, Vedomosti reported that global automakers are beginning to refuse to supply cars to Russia. In particular, German Audi sent such a letter to car dealers. A similar letter also came from the American concern General Motors (GM, which sells Chevrolet cars in Russia), sources in leasing companies told Vedomosti. Messages of similar content are also expected from Volkswagen (VW), its division “Volkswagen commercial vehicles” and the Czech Skoda (owned by Volkswagen).

On February 25, the Renault plant in Moscow announced that it would suspend work from February 28 to March 5 due to interruptions in the supply of components. While Renault is the “leader in localization” among foreign automakers, there are “some components in production that come from other countries,” the spokesman said. Renault’s Moscow plant produces the Renault Arkana, Kaptur and Duster crossovers, as well as the Nissan Terrano.

Earlier today it became known about the suspension of the work of the Hyundai plant in St. Petersburg in the period from March 1 to March 5 due to a shortage of components. Production is scheduled to resume on March 9. The plant produces several car models, including the Hyuindai Solaris, Hyuindai Sonata, Hyuindai Tucson and Hyuindai Santa Fe.

Refusal of supplies occurred after the start of Russia’s special operation in the Donbass on February 24. Its stated goal is to protect the residents of Donbass, who are “subjected to bullying, genocide by the Kiev regime,” Russian President Vladimir Putin said. At the same time, he noted that Russia has no plans to occupy Ukraine, but Moscow will strive for the demilitarization and denazification of this country. The West in response sharply increased anti-Russian sanctions.
