Jailer box office collection: There is a huge chance of Rajinikanth’s Jailer taking down 2.0’s position as the highest-grossing Tamil film.
While Rajinikanth’s act of touching the feet of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath seems to have disappointed many down South, the Superstar’s Jailer continues to live up to audiences’ expectations. On Day 11, the masala film, directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, is still having good momentum at the box office. According to Sacnilk, the movie earned Rs 18.5 crore on its second Sunday at the Indian box office. The number is a significant rise from its nationwide collection on Day 10: Rs 16.25 crore.
Earlier, film trade analyst Manobala Vijayabalan tweeted that the movie has crossed the Rs 500 crore mark at the box office worldwide. However, a Sacnilk report claims that the film has minted only Rs 477.6 crore so far. The report also stated that the movie has so far collected Rs 280 crore from across the nation with an average occupancy of more than 50 per cent in most of the cities and towns in Tamil Nadu.
Earlier, speaking to The Indian Express, film trade analyst Ramesh Bala predicted that Jailer will earn Rs 700 crore (lifetime collection). If the movie continues its current pace at the box office, it also has a chance to touch Rs 800 crore and become the highest-grossing Tamil film. Currently, Rajinikanth’s 2.0 holds the top spot, which might get conquered yet again by the Superstar.
Also starring Jackie Shroff, Mohanlal, Shivrajkumar, and Kishore in cameos, Jailer follows the story of a retired police officer, who uses his connections with former prisoners to save his son from a gangster.
Rajinikanth will next team up with director TJ Gnanvel, who shot to fame with the film Jai Bhim, starring Suriya. The movie is currently referred to as Thalaivar 170, denoting the number of films in Rajini’s career. It is now rumoured that the film will be titled Vettaiyan. Another rumour about the actor is that he is set to join Lokesh Kanagaraj’s cinematic universe.
