Jaione Camborda from Donostia will present ‘O corno’ at the Toronto Festival

Donostia-based filmmaker Jaione Camborda will present his second feature film, ‘O corno’, at the 48th edition of the Toronto International Film Festival. The appointment will be held from September 7 to 17. It will be accompanied by other Basque projects, such as Pablo Berger’s first animated work ‘Robot Dreams’ from Bilbao or the fiction ‘Cerrar los Ojos’, the return of filmmaker Victor Erice.

The creator from Donostia has developed the audiovisual in the Ikusmira Berria program and will compete in the Platform category. Filmed in Galician and Portuguese, the project is set in the countryside of the territory, on the island of Arousa, in the early 1970s. The protagonist is Maria (Janet Novás), who helps with childbirth, after a terrible event, she had to flee from the island where she lives to Portugal along an old route of smugglers.

Camborda will compete with Donostia’s Isabel Herguera and Isabel Coixet for the Golden Shell at the 71st Donostia Film Festival that will take place from September 22nd to 30th. A total of fourteen – nine feature films, one medium-length film, one short film and three TV series – will be the Spanish productions that will be screened at the Donostia Film Festival. In 2022 there were eighteen: fifteen feature films, two shorts and a TV series.

Second feature film

Previously, Camborda presented the feature film ‘Arima’ in 2018, which presents four women affected by the arrival of two men. One wants to kill the other. During 2017, the man from Donostia filmed in several towns in Galicia, one in Santiago de Compostela, and he won the ‘Push Play Work in Progress’ award worth 6,000 euros at the Xixon Film Festival for the production of the film Soul. He was also awarded in Seville.

In 2011 he founded the production company Esnatu Films, with which he has worked several times: ‘Nimbos’ (2015), ‘Proba de axilidade’ (2015) and ‘Rapa das bestias’ (2017).
