As Russia continues its offensive in Ukraine, Union Foreign Minister S. Jaishank held a telephone conversation Thursday night with Russian Foreign Minister Sokai Lavrov and US Secretary of State Anthony Blingen.
At the time, Jaishank stressed that “negotiations and diplomatic approach are the best way to resolve the Ukraine-Russia issue.”
Pope has been embroiled in tensions between Ukraine and Russia for the past several days. In this context, Russia launched an offensive on Ukraine on Thursday. Russia resumed its second day on Friday. There were reports of casualties on both sides.
In this context, India is making efforts to defuse tensions between the two countries. Russian President Vladimir Putin’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke on the phone on Thursday night. Then, ‘The attack on Ukraine must stop immediately. The island should be found through diplomatic talks and a peace deal, ‘Modi told Putin.
Similarly, Foreign Minister Jaishankar held consultations with the Russian and US Ministries of Foreign Affairs on Thursday night.
In a post on his Twitter page, Jaishank said, “I have been in consultation with the Russian Foreign Ministry on the situation in Ukraine. At the time, it was emphasized that dialogue and diplomatic approach were the best way to resolve the Ukraine-Russia issue. I have also consulted on assisting in the safe repatriation of Indians stranded in Ukraine.
“I have also consulted with the US Secretary of State on the situation in Ukraine,” he said in another post.
The US State Department said in a statement on the telephone conversation between Blingen and Jaishank that “it is imperative that the world community express strong condemnation of Russia’s action on Ukraine during the talks with Jaishank, and that Russia should withdraw its troops immediately and declare a ceasefire.”
Similarly, Jaishank held telephone consultations with EU Foreign Secretary Joseph Borel and British Foreign Secretary Liz Dres on the Ukraine issue.
