Belonging to the Spanish club Getafe and loaned to Sparta Prague, Jakub Jankto, 27, openly reveals his homosexuality.

Czech international since 2017 and with more than 40 selections, Jakub Jankto took the floor to speak openly about his homosexuality. Belonging to the Spanish club Getafe since 2021, the midfielder is playing in the Czech Republic this season, on loan to Sparta Prague.

The club from the Czech capital did not fail to relay the speech of its player, made in a video posted on Twitter. “Hi, I’m Jakub Jankto, he explains to the camera. Like everyone, I have my strengths and my weaknesses. I have a family, friends… Like everyone else, I also want to live my life without fear or violence, but with love and freedom. I’m gay and I don’t want to hide anymore.»

Jankto, 27, has spent most of his career in Italy, notably at Udinese and Sampdoria. “The purpose of this video is to encourage othersto live freely, it is specified at the end of the video. Homosexuality remains a taboo subject in the world of football, like the controversies this winter during the World Cup concerning the “One Love” armband.

According to the Spanish press, this is the first time that a player belonging to a La Liga club publicly assumes his homosexuality. Sparta Prague immediately expressed their support for Jankto. “Jakub Jankto spoke openly about his sexual orientation with the club’s management, coach and teammates some time ago, commented Sparta Prague.
