Jalen Hurts left off 2023 Pro Bowl Roster after Strong Season

Following a standout season in which he once was considered a frontrunner for the MVP Award, Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts has been left off the 2023 Pro Bowl roster.

The NFL Pro Bowl rosters were released on Wednesday night, and Hurts, who made the team in 2022, was notably omitted this year. The three quarterbacks taken from the NFC were 49ers’ Brock Purdy (starter), Cowboys’ Dak Prescott and Rams’ Matthew Stafford.

Despite being left off the roster, Hurts is a first-alternate, leaving a possibility that he could end up being a Pro Bowler for the 2023 season.

In the regular season, Hurts put up impressive numbers, ranking second among NFL quarterbacks in total touchdowns with 38, trailing only behind Bills’ quarterback Josh Allen with 42. He completed 66.1% of his passes for 3,803 yards with 23 passing touchdowns and 14 interceptions. He also rushed for 601 yards and 15 touchdowns.

In comparison to the NFC Pro Bowl QBs, Hurts has a better overall rushing record than Stafford, and the Eagles have a better win record than the Rams. However, it’s hard to make a case that Hurts deserves a Pro Bowl spot over Purdy or Prescott due to varying metrics.

Although Hurts didn’t make the Pro Bowl, six of his Eagles teammates did: Jason Kelce, Lane Johnson, Landon Dickerson, A.J. Brown, D’Andre Swift, Haason Reddick.

The Eagles also have several alternates aside from Hurts, showcasing the team’s strong season.

Whether or not Hurts will ultimately become a Pro Bowler for the 2023 season remains to be seen, but his strong performance and potential have put him in good standing for future honors.
