Jama and Chone producers benefit from AFC cards – La Nación

Jama, 21 Peasant Family Agriculture (AFC) cards and 33 training certificates in Learning Communities were delivered by the Vice Minister of Rural Development of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAG), Marco Oviedo, in the Jama and Chone cantons, in the province of Manabí .

The Vice Minister made a technical visit to the Manuel Félix López Higher Polytechnic Agricultural School of Manabí (ESPAM MFL), in the Bolívar canton.

In dialogue with the rector of ESPAM, Mirian Félix, they reached agreements to renew the framework agreement, sign agreements for links with students, use the bovine reproduction laboratory for general stabilization of adapted breeds and joint training on Peasant Family Agriculture.

Later he moved to the La Y de Cucuy community, in the Eloy Alfaro parish, in the Chone canton, where he spoke with small agricultural producers who received 21 cards from the AFC, whom he invited to continue training in good agricultural and livestock practices.

He stressed that being a farmer he knows the problems in the field. “Many times we have to fight against the weather, pests, even the market. But it is important that they are associated to be able to compete. In addition, we have a great commitment to health and the environment by producing healthy products,” he said, indicating that with the training provided by MAG technicians they will be able to access the associative seal.

At the graduation of 33 AFC producers from the La Llanura and Felipe Castañeda associations, from the Jama canton, the Vice Minister said that the Government of President Daniel Noboa is working on the development of public policies. He highlighted that the AFC contributes 63% of the food that reaches homes in Ecuador.

Leopoldo Viteri, District Director of MAG Manabí, said that the AFC certification and seal are distinctive of rural origin, with Good Agricultural Practices (GAP), recognized as family farmers who carry out productive activities, where they can access fair trade.

Mónica Rosales, president of the Llanura Agricultural Association, on behalf of the graduates, thanked the support provided by the MAG, and indicated that the knowledge acquired will be replicated in the different communities, in order to improve the production and economy of the families in the sector. .

The objective of the Learning Communities that develop the MAG is to combine the rescue of ancestral knowledge and combine it with technological innovation to improve the production process of Peasant Family Agriculture (AFC).
