After 13 years, Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh held a press conference at its head office in Moghbazar, Dhaka. Amir Shafiqur Rahman of the party spoke about the current situation of the country. It should be noted that after 2011, no more activities were conducted from this office.

Jamaat’s Amir Shafiqur Rahman said in a press conference on Tuesday (August 6) afternoon, “Our strong demand is to dissolve the parliament as soon as possible without delay.” Form an interim government.’

Commenting that there is no opportunity to do much homework on the outline of the interim government, Shafiqur Rahman said, ‘Interim said, the caretaker said that there will be no need to do much homework on it. Although it is prohibited by law. Law is for the people. Can be corrected again if necessary.’

Economist Professor Dr. When asked how he viewed the proposal by the coordinators of the anti-discrimination student movement to appoint Muhammad Yunus as the head of the interim government, he said, “We look at him with respect.”

Shafiqur said, ‘They (students) have the right to say such things. I have requested the President to listen to the students as well. He promised. I am not commenting on this now.’

In response to a question about the cancellation of Jamaat-e-Islami’s registration, he said, “It is a court matter. Our senior lawyer sought time when the country was in a deadlock. There is scope of law here. This is not our topic now. Now it is up to us how to make the nation peaceful.’

A call to prevent anarchy and misogyny:

Amir of Jamaat-e-Islami called for resistance against anarchy saying that an opportunistic rogue group is attacking and setting fire to government buildings, houses of opponents and religious institutions of minorities in different areas.

Condemning these incidents, he said, ‘Yesterday we made a bold call, today we will call the nation again, wherever you see mischief, they must be prevented immediately. We promise, we are ready to give full cooperation to the existing administration in this regard.’

Stating that a ‘change’ has come yesterday through the loss of many lives, Jamaat’s Amir said, ‘We note with great sadness that on the eve of such a change, an opportunistic rogue group has attacked various government buildings in various parts of Bangladesh, cities and rural areas, houses of opponents and some in particular. Minority religious institutions have been hit in some places. Some were vandalized, some were looted, some were set on fire. Those who have conscience and humanity in their hearts, they cannot do these things.’

Shafiqur Rahman has given instructions to the party’s leaders and workers in this regard and said, “From now on, where there is danger of people being endangered, Jamaat leaders and workers should play the role of watchmen.”

The Jamaat leader demanded to identify and prosecute those who committed the loot-arson incident. He said, ‘In this country of 56,000 square miles, there is no gap where a miscreant can cause an accident. It is not possible to prevent this by two organizations. Here Apamar people have to fulfill their spontaneous duty. Then surely the miscreants will not show this audacity. Those who have already done these things, must be brought under the law.’

Whoever is born in Bangladesh is a proud citizen of Bangladesh irrespective of caste, creed and caste – Amir of Jamaat commented, ‘There is no minority and no majority here. Therefore, the question of who is a minority is unanswerable to us. We consider all these misdeeds to be acts against humanity. We call upon the nation, wherever it sees mischief, to stop it immediately. We promise, we are ready to give full cooperation to the existing administration in this regard.’

At that time, the party’s central Nayeb Amir Mujibur Rahman, Assistant General Secretary Hamidur Rahman Azad and Abdul Halim, Amir Nurul Islam of Metropolitan South, Amir Salimuddin of North, Secretary of South Shafiqul Islam Masood, Secretary of North Rezaul Karim were present at various levels.
