Interim Government Chief Advisor Nobel Laureate Dr. Top leaders of Jamaat-e-Islami held a meeting with Muhammad Yunus. The meeting was held at Yamuna, the official residence of the Chief Adviser, on Monday (August 12) afternoon. The 11-member delegation of the Jamaat was led by the Amir of the party. In the meeting, there was no talk about the upcoming national elections, instead, the leaders raised a bunch of demands on behalf of the party, including the reform of the country’s administrative structure and security of life and property, protection of law and order.

At the end of the meeting, the leader of the party Dr. Shafiqur Rahman told the journalists that there was a fruitful discussion in a very cordial environment. Various issues of the country were discussed. However, there was no talk of elections.

He said, whether the attack on people belonging to different religions was due to religious or political reasons, it should be investigated. It cannot be continued because it is for religious reasons, it is also for political reasons. There is still a conspiracy going on about the issues.

Asked whether there was any talk about banning Jamaat or not, Amir said there was no talk about it. I did not come here to talk about the party. But we don’t get banned just because someone bans us. They have done wrong, for which the countrymen have to pay.

Referring to the prevailing situation in the country, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman said that effective initiatives should be taken to bring the violence and law and order situation under control across the country. All political cases filed during the regime of the previous government should be withdrawn. A case should be filed against those who committed genocide in suppressing the anti-discrimination student movement. Officials who supported the misdeeds of the previous government including police administration and judiciary should be removed and honest, efficient and professional officers should be appointed. The white paper on the corruption of the previous government should be published and all the corrupt including ministers/MPs and government officials should be prosecuted. Those who were denied promotion during the previous government should be given speedy promotion and respectable posting. Forced retirees should be reinstated/recruited on contract basis. 57 Bangladeshis protesting in the UAE in support of the quota movement should be given honorable resettlement. Steps should be taken to mobilize the economy of the country along with increasing remittances and arrangements should be made to bring back the smuggled money. He also said that the administration of Jamaat-e-Islami and Chhatrashibir will be fully supported in establishing peace and order in the country and providing security to the lives and property of the people.
